ABOUT VÉRONIQUE
Véronique Hoog was born in France and raised in South Africa in KwaZulu-Natal.
Her early art was largely influenced by the lively fauvist colours and expression of Henri Matisse and Paul Gauguin’s work – these inspired the passion for colour and “joie de vivre” typical of her earlier work.
Her passion for people lead to an interest in portrait painting. Véronique studied in workshops at the New York School of Visual Arts, and later the Arts Students League in the same city. She has also participated in workshops at LARA in London, in Germany, and in Texas USA. Véronique embraces the mediums of oil on linen and aluminium and of charcoal on canvas.
Her scale is lifesize and much larger
“Portraiture reflects the life experiences of the sitter as shared in a unique relationship with the artist. My aim is to capture a glimpse of a character in a moment in time in the sitter’s life.”
